UPDATE: March 2015, Clark County Fire District 6 (a partner on this effort) recently shared that a new loaner station was built at Klineline Park in partnership with SafeKids and Clark County Parks and Recreation.
The 2014 Salmon Creek Business Group Golf Tournament was once again, very successful with raising $1,400 for the Safe Kids Clark County life jacket program.
After waiting out the thunder and lightning at Tri-Mountain Golf Course, golfers were able to take the course with just a 40 minute weather delay.
Anne Johnston, Public Health Nurse for Clark County Public Health came and spoke to the group about the drownings that have occurred over the summer; sharing that many of the folks weren’t planning to swim at all.
“The Life Jacket Loaner Stationsare located at Klineline Ponds and Marine Park, but hopefully by next summer another can be at Vancouver Lake Park,” Johnston also shared. “When life jackets don’t get returned to the station, we are hoping the life jacket is going home and being used over and over by that family.”
Board members also shared with the participants that when they were planning the 2014 tournament, they were having trouble deciding which group to support this year. When reading the call for donations of life jackets and cash in The Columbian, the Salmon Creek Business Group knew they could help, especially given the recent drowning at Klineline Pond.
